ALLIANCE, Ohio – The mount union women's 4x400-meter team broke the school record Thursday night while six other Purple Raiders got top 22 marks in Division III.
The quartet of
Cortni Arp (Copley),
Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Central),
Mary Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and
Madison Miles ran a 3:45.43 besting a nine-year-old record of 3:46.36. This time puts the ladies fourth in the nation.
Lauren Roncone (North Canton / Hoover) and
Kennady Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless) jumped up the national ranking in long jump with marks of 19-feet 2-inches and 19-feet 1.5-inches good for seventh and eighth in the nation currently.
Michaelina Terranova (North Jackson / Jackson-Milton) put together the 15th best run in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.77.
Sidney Rambo (Columbiana / Columbiana Crestview) put together a great throw in the discus with a toss of 143-feet 3-inches good for 17th in division III.
The quartet of Matthew McBride (Conneaut),
Justin Knoch (Canton / GlenOak)
Tyler Gill (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds) and
Dylon Campbell (Cuyahoga Falls) ran a 3:14.31 which is good for the 13th fastest time but the men have the fastest time in the nation running it earlier in the year.
The high jump trio of
Tanner Slack (New Concord / John Glenn),
Evan Hershberger (Dalton) and
Elijah Cobb (Mansfield / St. Peter's) took the top three spots with Slack winning with a height of 6-feet 8.25-inches which would be good for a tie of 16th but he currently sits in a tie for fifth with a better height.
Jeff Joseph (Beloit / West Branch) picked up a victory in the 5,000-meters with a time of 14:54.75.
Drake Willenborg (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) finished second in discus with a throw of 163-feet 9-inches.
Dominic Deshuk (Amherst / Steele) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.79.
The Raiders now await Friday as the list of athletes who made the national meet will be announced. For the women they must be in the top 22 of declared athletes, the men must be top 20 while relays must be in the top 16.
Mount Union along with the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will be hosting the national meet next Thursday May 26th through Saturday May 28th at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
