ERIE, Pa. – Mount Union's women's soccer team beat Penn State Behrend 5-4 on the road in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (2-0-2) struck first when junior
Kaela Turle (Twinsburg) found senior
Andrea Decker (Hilliard / Hilliard Bradley) for a goal in the fourth minute.
The Lions (1-4) would answer with a goal of their own a minute later when Emily Clopp found the back of the net to tie the game at one. Penn State Behrend would take the lead in the 17
th minute coming off a goal by Trinity Prestash.
Mount Union would tie the game when junior
Emily Beach (Gahanna / Gahanna Lincoln) scored her first career goal off an assist from Decker in the 23
rd minute.
Senior
Madison Pepper (Uniontown / Lake) found the back of the net in the 49
th minute off an assist from Beach to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead.
The Lions would answer again when Kristi Buckenheimer scored off a penalty kick in the 55
th minute tying the game at three.
The Raiders would reclaim the lead in the 88
th minute when Pepper scored her second goal of the night, but Penn State Behrend would tie the game less than a minute later when Lizzie Hoff found the back of the net to tie the game at four.
Freshman
Alanna Woodworth (Amherst / Steele) scored with less than a minute to go off an assist from Decker to give the Raiders a 5-4 victory.
The Raiders are back in action on Saturday, September 17 at 1 p.m. in Pittsburgh, Pa. when they take on Chatham.
