Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Casey Kropka

Raiders Sweep Wooster and Alma to Start the Season 2-0

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's volleyball team swept Wooster and Alma at the Mount Union Invitational Friday night to begin the season.
 
In the first match of the season Mount Union beat Wooster (0-1) 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13. Senior Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) lead the Purple Raiders (2-0) in kills with 10 while sophomore Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) finished with five kills.
 
Senior Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) finished with 19 assists while sophomore Alexis Meyer (Avon Lake) led Mount Union on the front line with five blocks.
 
Senior Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) finished with a game-high 23 digs while sophomores Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) and Katelyn Lesko (Mineral Ridge) dug out 10 balls each.
 
Mount Union held Wooster to a -.097 hitting percentage thanks to nine blocks on the night.
 
In the second game Mount Union beat Alma (Mich.) (0-2) 25-11, 25-18 and 25-21. Bartell led the Raiders with 13 kills while Ellesin finished with nine.
 
Thomas led Mount Union in assists with 21 while senior Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) finished with 11 assists.
 
Kasaris had a game-high 18 digs while Lesko and Bartell also finished with double digits with 13 and 10 respectively.
 
Mount Union finishes the weekend off tomorrow playing Carnegie Mellon who is receiving votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
