GRANVILLE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's volleyball team took down Denison and Kenyon to run its win streak to nine games Saturday afternoon.
In the first game Mount Union (13-3) defeated Denison (5-7) 13-25, 25-22, 25-21 and 25-14.
The Purple Raiders totaled 16 team blocks in the game their highest since October 27th, 2018, against Ohio Northern when they had 17 blocks.
Leading the charge on the net was sophomores
Alexis Meyer (Avon Lake) and
Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) who both had one solo and five assisted blocks. Senior
Isabella Sprunger (North Royalton) and
Catherine Klopp (Sycamore / Mohawk) each had a solo block and four assisted while senior
Maria Ellesin (Alliance / Marlington) had four assisted blocks.
Sophomore
Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) led the attacking with 10 kills while Bartell added eight kills.
Senior setter
Mollie Thomas (Massillon / Massillon Perry) finished with 18 assists while sophomore
Casey Kildow (Bethesda / Union Local) finished with eight and senior
Katie May (Brecksville / Independence) finished with six.
Senior libero
Alyssa Kasaris (North Royalton) finished with 16 digs while Bartell and sophomore
Katelyn Lesko (Mineral Ridge) had 15 and eight respectively.
In match two Mount Union defeated Kenyon (1-11) 25-12, 25-9 and 25-.
Leading the Raiders in hitting was Ellesin with 11 kills. Bartell and freshman
Sydney Mercer (Beloit / West Branch) had eight and seven kills.
Thomas along with Kildow had 14 and 13 assists with Kasaris picking up a game-high 17 digs and Klopp picking up three solo blocks.
Mount Union as a team hit .363 for the match. Mercer and Klopp both hit over .700 percent in the match.
Mount Union now begins conference play next Saturday October 1st at 1 p.m. with a game against Ohio Northern at the MAAC.
