Raiders Fall In Thriller to No. 7 Baldwin Wallace

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team led No. 7 Baldwin Wallace going into the final minute of regulation but a three pointer from Baldwin Wallace sent the game into overtime as Mount Union fell at home 75-73 in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday night.
 
The Purple Raiders (4-8, 1-4 OAC) were led by sophomore Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) scoring 17 points.
 
Senior Emma Cannon (Dalton) was a rebound shy of a double-double scoring 15 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Senior Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln) finished with double digits as well scoring 12.
 
No. 7 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace (12-0, 5-0 OAC) was led by Caely Ressler scoring 23 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
 
The first quarter of play began slow for both teams as Mount Union connected on just four shots and Baldwin Wallace connected on just two. Baldwin Wallace hit a couple of free throws to give them the lead 9-8 after one quarter.
 
The second quarter saw the score tied at 14, 16, 18 and 23. Mount Union took the lead on a three pointer from Hensley to go up 23-18 the largest lead for the Raiders in the first half. Baldwin Wallace scored the next five points but again a three pointer this time from freshman Addison Mucci (Canton / St. Thomas Aquinas) put Mount Union up 26-23. Baldwin Wallace scored the final bucket of the quarter at the 2:49 mark to trail 26-25.
 
Mount Union got its largest lead of the night 44-37 on a free throw from sophomore Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) with 2:09 remaining in the third quarter. Baldwin Wallace responded with a 5-0 run to end the quarter as Mount Union took a 43-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Both teams battled in the fourth quarter with the game tied at 44, 46, 48, and 53. Cannon scored four straight for the Raiders to take a 57-53 lead with 1:44 remaining. Baldwin Wallace responded with a three of their own to close with one.
 
Hudik banked in a three with 53 seconds reaming to go up 60-56. Mount Union added two more with free throws from Cannon to lead by six with 28 second left. Two threes from Baldwin Wallace in the final 20 seconds tied the game and sent it to overtime.
 
Baldwin Wallace and Mount Union traded a free throw each to start the overtime period but a 7-0 run for Baldwin Wallace gave them a 71-64 lead with 1:54 remaining. Mount Union battled all the way back to a 75-73 score but with three seconds remaining Baldwin Wallace was able to inbound and run the clock out.
 
The Raiders travel to Bexley on Saturday for a doubleheader with the men facing Capital. The women will play at 4 p.m.
