Women's Volleyball: GAME PREVIEW; Raiders Ready For OAC Championship

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Mount Union travels to Otterbein to compete in the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament Championship Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Rike Center.

Teams Breakdown
The Purple Raiders (20-7 overall) are the tournament's No. 3 seed and Otterbein (22-8 overall) comes in as the top seed.
 
Mount Union's path to the championship was a four-set win over No. 6 seed Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday and then a five-set reverse sweep of the No. 2 seed Marietta on Thursday.
 
Otterbein's path to the championship was one less game sweeping No. 4 seed Ohio Northern on Thursday.
 
Mount Union brings in the OAC's top defense averaging 2.45 blocks per set currently ranking sixth in the nation and 19.23 digs which is 14th in the nation. Otterbein is seventh in the conference in digs with 15.91 per set and fifth in blocks per set with 1.71.
 
On the offensive side Mount Union is fifth in kills per set with 12.24 while Otterbein leads the OAC and currently 15th in the country with 13.37 per set. Mount Union is fifth in the OAC in assists with 11.25 while Otterbein leads the OAC and 16th in the country with 12.36.
 
Players to Watch (Mount Union)
#9 Heaven Bartell – Bartell just picked up her third straight First Team All-OAC honor this week. The junior outside hitter currently ranks fourth in the OAC in kills per set with 3.35, fifthth in kills in the OAC with 325, eighth in hitting percentage at .272 and 11th in the digs per set with 3.02. Bartell over the two tournament games is averaging 16.5 kills with 20.5 digs while having a hitting percentage of .265.
 
#5 Alexis Meyer – Meyer picked up her first Frist Team All-OAC honor this week. The junior middle hitter currently ranks first in blocks per set in the OAC with 1.23, which ranks eighth in the nation and 11th in the OAC in hitting percentage at .259. Meyer has averaged seven and a half kills and five blocks over the past two tournament games.
 
#10 Averi Haley – Haley earned her first Honorable Mention honor this week. The freshman libero ranks fourth in the OAC in digs per set with 4.97 and digs at 477. Haley over the past two games has averaged 20 digs per game.
 
Players to Watch (Otterbein)
#30 Morgan Hartman – Hartman was named the OAC Player of the Year this week. She is first in the OAC in kills and kills per ser with 390 kills and 3.82 kills per set. In the win over Ohio Northern Hartman finished with 13 kills and 10 digs.
 
#17 Amanda Troyer – Troyer was named the OAC Libero of the Year this week. Troyer is third in digs and digs per set in the OAC with 581 digs and 5.48 digs per set. Troyer finished the game against Ohio Northern with 21 digs and three service aces.
 
#8 Kennedy Hoffman – Hoffman earned Honorable Mention All-OAC this week. Hoffman is third in the OAC in kills and kills per set with 355 and 3.41 kills per set. She led Otterbein in the win over Ohio Northern with 14 kills on a hitting percentage of .387.
 
OAC Tournament History
 
It is the 34th OAC Tournament appearance for Mount Union and the Raiders have a 29-30 record and won tournament titles in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
 
Otterbein is in its 27th OAC tournament and have compiled a 22-23 record and won tournament titles in 2017, 2020-21 (Covid year) and 2022.
 
Mount Union and Otterbein have met nine previous times in the OAC Tournament with Mount Union winning six and Otterbein winning three matchups.
