HOLLAND, Michigan – The Mount Union women's volleyball team fell in four sets (16-25, 23-25, 25-20 and 13-25) to No. 17 Transylvania in the first round of the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championships Thursday afternoon at the DeVos Fieldhouse on the campus of Hope College.
The Purple Raiders (20-9) were led on offense by duo junior hitters
Heaven Bartell (Cleveland / St. Joseph Academy) and
Darby Leininger (Chardon / Beaumont) with 19 and 18 kills each.
Junior setter
Casey Kildow (Bethesda / Union Local) and freshman setter
Melissa Hansen (Hudson) led the way with 26 and 21 assists.
Freshman libero
Averi Haley (Orrville) finished with a team-high 26 digs while junior defensive specialist Katleyn Lesko (Mineral Ridge) senior defensive specialist
Adrian Petrisko (Elyria) finished with 13 and 12 digs.
Transylvania (26-6) was led by Isabella Myers with 20 kills, Grace Ward with 51 assists and Ava Beltsos with 27 digs.
Mount Union will finish its season at an overall record of 20-9 and 6-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The team qualified to its sixth NCAA Appearance and the first since 2014.
