Box Score BLUFFTON, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team fell to Bluffton 80-75 on day two of the McDonald's of Bluffton Classic Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (5-6, 2-2 OAC) were led by Sophomore
Addison Mucci (Canton / St. Thomas Aquinas) scoring 18 points connecting on four threes
Freshman
Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) finished with double digit points with 13.
Bluffton (3-8 1-3 Heartland) were led by Kayla Prigge with 19 points and six rebounds.
FIRST QUARTER
Bluffton got the game started connecting on two shots but Triplett responded quickly with a three pointer. A three from senior
Lily Sweeney (Sylvania / Sylvania Northview) gave the Raiders their first lead of the game at 8-7 with 5:47 left in the first. Both teams were tied at 10 with 2:42 remaining in the quarter but a 7-2 run to end the quarter for Bluffton gave them a 17-12 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
Triplett got the second quarter started with a three to shrink Bluffton's lead down to 17-15 but Bluffton responded with an 8-0 run to push the lead out to 25-15 with 6:05 left in the quarter. Mucci connected on a three and junior
Hailey Haywood (Barberton) made a jump shot to get the lead down to 25-20 but Bluffton extended the lead out to nine twice with the last being a 36-27 halftime lead.
THIRD QUARTER
Bluffton began the third quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 45-29 lead. Mount Union got within 10 on a 6-0 run as sophomore
Sierra Schlosser (Galloway / Bishop Ready) and Sweeney both connected on threes. Bluffton finished the quarter on a 9-5 run to lead 62-45.
FOURTH QUARTER
Bluffton got a lead of 20 three separate times in the quarter but Mount Union battled back going on a 15-2 run including three three-pointers from Mucci to get within seven at 71-64 with 3:37 left in the game. Mount Union got within three points going on a 8-3 run over the final 1:30 as Triplett hit a three, freshman
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) had two free throws and freshman
Tess Conroy (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) connected on a three to get to 78-75 with 19 seconds remaining. Bluffton iced the game through with two free throws to take the 80-75 win.
Mount Union returns to Ohio Athletic Conference play traveling to Berea to take on Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, January 3rd with a 7 pm tip off.
