Men's Basketball: No. 11 Raiders Bounce Back Against Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The No. 11 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team beat Muskingum 82-48 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

The Purple Raiders (6-1, 1-1 OAC) had five players score in double figures with senior Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with 13 points, senior Darrell Newsom (Twinsburg) added in 11 points. Sophomore Corey Hudson (Columbus / Pickerington), senior Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) and junior Michael Skeriotis (North Canton / Massillon Jackson) all scored 10 points to round out the Raiders in double digits.

The Fighting Muskies (2-4, 0-2 OAC) were led by Korey Robinson and Reed Coconis who both scored a team-high seven points.

Mount Union jumped out to an early 12-6 lead just four minutes into the game. Both teams would trade baskets over the next 10 minutes with the lead never growing larger than 10, but the Muskies never got closer than five. Then, a lay in from Hudson sparked a 15-5 Raiders run over the final 6:08 of the first half that saw Mount Union take a 39-23 lead into the halftime break.

The Raiders would open the second half with a massive 19-5 run over the first 6:43 of the half to take a 58-28 lead with 13:17 remaining in the game. The Muskies wouldn't be able to get closer than 23 over the final 13 minutes of action as Mount Union would go on to win 82-48.

The Raiders are on the road again next when they travel to Ada to take on Ohio Northern on Saturday, December 9 at 2 p.m.
