BEREA, Ohio—
Matt McBride (Conneaut) broke the 500-meter national record by .19 seconds with a time of 1:03.52 to get the No. 21 nationally ranked Mount Union men's track and field team off to a hot start on Day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships.
The Purple Raiders scored 92 points on day one leading by 51 over No. 9 nationally ranked John Carroll who has 41 points.
Behind McBride in the 500-meters was
Justin Knoch (Canton / GlenOak) taking second overall with a time of 1:05.12.
Kyel Wolff (Cleveland / Cuyahoga Heights) won the pole vault with a leap of 15-feet 9.25-inches while
Colton Hanlon (Uniontown / Lake) gets All-OAC honors with a third-place finish with 14-feet 3.5-inches.
Tyler Gill (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds) took second in the 400-Meters with a time of 49.06 which will convert to 48.29 making it the 15th fastest time in the nation.
Drake Willenborg (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) finished second overall in the weight throw with a toss of 59-feet 2-inches which currently sits 21st in Division III.
The quartet of
Matt Tschantz (Canton / GlenOak), Isaac Pittman (Copley),
Michael Palmer (Canton / Fairless) and
Alex Reese (Geneva) grabs second in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:28.09.
Qualifying to finals tomorrow in the 55-Meter hurdles was Kyrie Long (Austintown / Austintown-Fitch),
Dominic Deshuk (Amherst / Steele) and
Blaine Kitchen (Tontogany / Otsego).
Qualifying to finals tomorrow in the 55-Meters was
Andrew McVicker (Dover),
Jared Storm (Barberton) and
Brandon Paige (Youngstown / Young Valley Christian).
Mount Union will begin tomorrow with field events at 10 a.m. and finish with the running events starting at 2:30 p.m. on the campus of Baldwin Wallace.
