BEREA, Ohio—
Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic) broke an Ohio Athletic Conference and school record in the 500-Meters with an 1:14.69 while also breaking the school record in the prelims of the 55-Meter Dash with a time of 7.09 to lead the No. 6 Nationally ranked Mount Union women's track and field team to a successful day one of the OAC Track and Field Championships.
Mount Union scored 72 points on day one to take a 24-point lead over John Carroll who scored 48.
The Purple Raiders got the day started by
Kennady Gibbins (Navarre / Fairless) winning the long jump with a leap of 18-feet 3.75-inches while
Lauren Roncone (North Canton / Hoover) took home All-OAC honors with a lead of 17-feet 10.75-inches for third.
Mount Union stayed hot as they took the top three spots and five of the top eight in the 400-Meters.
Madison Miles (Padua / Padua Franciscan) finished first (57.35),
Mary Mason (Alliance / Marlington) took second (59.07) and
Halle Cochran (Salem) finished third (1:00.54). Miles time will convert to 56.60 to be ranked 10th in Division III.
The quartet of Angela Defabio (Twinsburg),
Julia Henderson (Twinsburg),
Leah Costello (Geneva) and
Megan Wertz (Canton / GlenOak) took home second place in a time of 12:25.61.
Gibbins qualified to the finals of the 55-Meter hurdles joining her are
Natasha Zahursky (Painesville / Riverside) and
McKenzie Chine (Austintown / Austintown-Fitch).
Wayt set the school record qualifying to the finals of the 55-Meters while Roncone and Gibbins will join her.
Mount Union will begin tomorrow with field events at 10 a.m. and finish with the running events starting at 2:30 p.m. on the campus of Baldwin Wallace.
