Men's Volleyball: Raiders Start Hot In Win Over Hiram

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's volleyball team defeated Hiram in four sets, 25-18, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-21, Wednesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
 
The Purple Raiders (13-4, 2-0 MCVL) was led by Cameron Ternent (Canal Fulton / Massillon Jackson) and Luke Trzeciak (Cranberry, Pa. / Seneca Valley) with 15 and 14 kills.
 
Will Heeney (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished with 26 assists while Max Kasier (Lewis Center / Olentangy) finished with nine.
 
Aaron Armour (Waukesha, Wis. / Catholic Memorial) had a team high 10 digs while Heeney finished with six.
 
Trzeciak led Mount Union in aces with three while Ternent and Heeney had two each.
 
Hiram (5-11, 3-3 AMCC) was led by Kyle Martini with 21 kills, Matthew Albano with 37 assists and 11 digs.
 
In the first set Mount Union used 18 kills with just four errors while Hiram had four errors but just 11 kills. Mount Union led in hitting percentage .483 to .280 in the set.
 
Set two saw less Mount Union and Hiram kills at Mount had 10 and Hiram had nine but Mount Union committed less errors with just three while Hiram had one more with four this set. The Raiders once again had the better hitting percentage at .304 to .200.
 
Mount Union in the third set committed eight hitting errors with 13 kills while Hiram had 10 kills and six errors. Mount Union did have the better hitting percentage through hitting .147 while Hiram had .125.
 
The final set saw Mount Union have just seven kills and four hitting errors while Hiram had 15 kills and eight hitting errors. Hiram led in hitting percentage with .241 to Mount Union's .120.
 
Mount Union returns to conference play on Friday at home against Wittenberg at 7 p.m. and then hosts a tri-match with Mount St. Joseph and Geneva on Saturday with games at 1,3 and 5.
