ALLIANCE, Ohio—In a game which saw a blizzard for roughly 10 minutes of play the Mount Union women's lacrosse team came away victorious over Allegheny out scoring them 13-3 over the final three quarters of play on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (4-1) gave Allegheny (5-1) its first lost of the season and now has won two straight games.
Mount Union was led by
Eden Kesler scoring four goals and three assists while
Katie Clark had three goals and two assists.
Mackenzie Kolstad,
Madi Karr and
Emily Funk each had two goals while Karr had three assist and Kolstad add an assist.
Kesler led Mount Union in caused turnovers with five while
Leah Shutts and
Tara Santoro each had three. Kesler also had six ground balls along with Santoro's five.
Abby Linkvist made seven saves while allowing six goals in three quarters of play while
Abby Reagan came in and made a save and allowed just one goal in the final period.
Allegheny was led by Senna Perelman while Macy Simons made 10 saves.
Allegheny struck first with two goals but Mount Union responded with two of its own. Allegheny found the back of the net two more times in the quarter but a goal with just .3 left in the first half from
Ella Nejad gave the Raiders the momentum going into the second quarter.
Mount Union scored the next five goals with Clark picking up two goals and
Emily Nannarone, M. Karr and Kesler each getting a goal. Allegheny picked up a goal with 59 seconds left to trail 8-5 at the half.
Allegheny got the first goal out of the halftime break but two goals from Kolstad and a goal each from Funk, Kesler and
Sam Karr gave Mount Union a 13-6 lead.
Funk and two Kesler goals gave Mount Union its largest led of 16-6 as Allegheny got one last goal to finish the game.
Mount Union will start Ohio Athletic Conference play taking on Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio next Sunday, March 26 at 1 p.m.
