GREENVILLE, Pa. – Mount Union's softball team swept Thiel in a doubleheader, winning game one 11-1 and winning game two 13-1 on Tuesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (9-3) would strike first in game one with a massive six run inning with RBIs coming from freshman
Mackenzie Herman (Hermitage, Pa. / Reynolds), freshman
Lydia Brunner (Minerva), freshman
Faith Reicosky (North Canton / Hoover) and sophomore
Adri George (Eastlake / North). The final two runs of the inning came when freshman
Sydney Mercer (Beloit / West Branch) stole home and then George scored on an error.
The Tomcats (3-7) would answer with a run of their own in the bottom half of the second inning when Dani Ficeti hit a solo homerun to left field. Mount Union would go on to add five more runs in the top of the fourth inning with RBIs coming from Mercer, freshman

Alexis Temple (Mentor) and Brunner as the Raiders would go on to win 11-1 in five innings.

Kendyll Cahill (Columbus / Grove Port Madison) got the start in the circle in game one for Mount Union and threw all five innings, giving up just one run, on one hit and struck out five.
The Raiders struck first again in game two scoring a run off an RBI single from George in the top half of the first inning. Mount Union would add to their lead in the second inning off RBIs from Brunner, Reicosky and Mercer to take a 5-0 lead. Mount Union would add to their lead in the top half of the fourth when Reicosky hit an RBI double to left field that scored freshman
Kaitlyn Culver (Akron / Springfield) to increase their lead to 6-0.
Thiel would answer with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring off an RBI double from Makenna Oswalt to cut the lead down to 6-1. The Raiders would go on to add seven more runs in the fifth inning with RBIs coming from Brunner, Mercer, George and junior
Michaela Folks (Wooster) and would go on to win 13-1 in five innings.
Herman got the start in the circle for Mount Union in game two, giving up just one run on five hits and struck out three in four innings of work. Freshman
Chloe Bird (Norton) came in to pitch the final inning in relief, giving up zero runs on zero hits.
The Raiders hit the road again tomorrow when they take on Bethany in a doubleheader, with game one starting at 3:30 p.m. and game two starting at 5:30 p.m. in Bethany, W.Va.
