ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's volleyball team made history in a four set victory, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18, and 25-19 against Trine on Senior Day in the Timken Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Purple Raiders clinched a share of its first ever Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League Regular Season title. Also with the win Mount Union will host the MCVL next Friday and Saturday in Alliance, Ohio.
Mount Union honored its four graduating seniors in
Cameron Ternent,
Luke Trzeciak,
Andrew Cross and
Peyton Hines.
The Raiders (20-5, 7-1 MCVL) were led by Ternet with 19 kills on .421 hitting percentage while
Jack McClure finished with 16 kills on .375 hitting percentage.
Will Heeney recorded a game-high 41 assists.
Aaron Armour led the Raiders with 16 digs while Trzeciak and McClure finished with 10 digs a piece.
Trine (14-12) was led by Kevin Boncaro with 20 digs and Sam Bhandal led Trine in assists with 34.
In the first set, Mount Union had 14 kills on four hitting errors while Trine had 11 kills on five hitting errors.
In the second set, Mount Union had 11 kills on 7 hitting errors while Trine had 15 kills on five hitting errors.
In the third set, Mount Union had 18 kills on four hitting errors. Trine had 10 kills on four hitting errors.
In the fourth set, Mount Union recorded 10 kills on five hitting errors while Trine had 12 kills on 11 hitting errors.
Mount Union will host Trine again next Friday April 14th in the first round of the MCVL Tournament in the Timken Gymnasium, the time is still yet to be determined.
