Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Season Ends In Second Round of the NCAA Tournament

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team's special run came to an end on Sunday afternoon with a 14-3 loss to No. 19 nationally ranked St. John Fisher.
 
The Purple Raiders (14-5, 7-0 OAC) had three goals score one goal each in seniors Julia Bates (East Lyme, Conn.), Sam Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter) and junior Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit).
 
Senior Leah Shutts (Buffalo, N.Y. / Amherst Central) led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers with four and three respectively.
 
Sophomore goalie Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Haborfields) made 12 saves standing big in goal while Senior goalie Shyanna White (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) finished out the final six minutes making two saves.
 
St. John Fisher (17-2, 7-0 Empire 8) was led by Sydney Carpenter and Tara Osterdale with three goals each while Lilly Goodsell made two saves.
 
Mount Union got on the board first with a goal from Bates but then St. John Fisher scored the next nine goals. Mount Union got another goal from Clark this time to get a little life but three more goals from St. John Fisher gave them a 12-2 lead. The final goal of the year for Mount Union came from S. Karr in the fourth quarter while St. John Fisher added two more to take the 14-3 victory.
 
Mount Union graduates 10 seniors from the team which saw the first OAC Regular Season title and bid into the NCAA Tournament since 2019 and a win in the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2018.
 
The Raiders picked up their first ever OAC Defensive Player of the Year with senior Megan Casciola (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township). Lindkvist was the OAC Co-Goalie of the Year and Clark was the OAC Offensive Player of the Year. The OAC Head Coach of the Year went to first year Head Coach Bethany Snider and assistant coach Katie Seidel.
 
The seniors graduating are Bates, Casciola, S. Karr, Shutts, White, Sydney Nikolevski (Penfield, N.Y.), Madi Karr (Newark, Del. / Newark Charter), Emily Nannarone (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls), Maddie Mitchell (Uniontown / Lake), and Madeline McCrackin (Kings Mills / Kings).
