CLEVELAND, Ohio – Mount Union's softball team lost to Hiram 4-2 in the NCAA Regional Championship game on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers (27-14) would strike first when Darian Kanno hit a solo homerun to right center field in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Purple Raiders (38-11) would tie the game at the one run apiece in the top of the sixth when freshman
Kendyll Cahill (Grove Port / Grove Port Madison) hit an RBI double down the right field line that scored freshman
Faith Reicosky (North Canton / Hoover). Hiram would reclaim the lead in the bottom half of the inning scoring off a sacrifice fly RBI from Abriana Schwartz to take a 2-1 lead heading into the final inning.
Mount Union would answer again in the top of the seventh inning when freshman
Lydia Brunner (Minerva) hit an RBI single down the right field line that scored freshman
Emily Denney (Poland / Poland Seminary) to tie the game at two. The Terriers would answer again in the bottom half of the inning when Kylie Perez hit a two-run homerun to left field to give Hiram the 4-2 victory.
Cahill got the start in the circle for Mount Union and pitched a complete game, giving up four runs on eight hits and struck out two.
Senior
Grace Heath (Beloit / West Branch), Cahill and Reicosky were all named to the Cleveland Regional All-Tournament Team for their performances over the weekend.
The Raiders finish the season with a 38-11 overall record, which tied the school record for single season wins, they also advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship game for the first time in program history. Mount Union finished Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 14-4 record, winning both the regular season and tournament championships.
