MARIETTA, Ohio – The No. 2-ranked Mount Union football team won, 28-0, at Marietta in both team's Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener on Saturday.
Two career Mount Union school records were broken. Senior wide receiver
Wayne Ruby (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) broke the career receiving yards mark, surpassing Cecil Short III's 4,705. Senior
Braxton Plunk (Plant City, Fla./Plant City) broke the career passing completions record, moving in front of Bill Borchert's 946.
Mount Union (2-0, 1-0 OAC) did all of its scoring in the first half, all from the arm of Plunk.
Senior tight end
Chase Lawson (Plant City, Fla./Lakeland Christian) caught a 9-yard touchdown to start the scoring. The Purple Raiders' next two Plunk touchdown throws went to, who else, Ruby - which included a 73-yard bomb. Senior
Tre Radford (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) caught the final touchdown, a dazzling 25-yard grab in the front corner of the end zone – his first collegiate touchdown.
Junior
Rossy Moore (Lima, Ohio/Lima Central Catholic) led Raider defense tying a school record for tackles for a loss with 6.0 and sacks with 4.0 – both career-highs. Moore's 11 tackles tied a career best. Also earning a sack were senior
Mason McMillen (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) and sophomore
Kaleb Brown (La Plata, Md./La Plata).
Ruby led all receivers with 10 catches for 173 yards and two touchdowns. Graduate student running back
DeAndre Parker (Crystal River, Fla./Crystal River) led on the ground with 76 yards from 13 carries (5.8 avg.). Plunk finished 20-of-30 for 286 yards and four touchdowns.
Freshman kicker
Deaglan Camron (Fort Myers, Florida/Bishop Verot) made all of his points-after-touchdown. Sophomore punter
Michael Franklin (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) averaged 39.2 a punt, including a long of 49.
The Purple Raiders will host Muskingum for their home opener next Saturday, Sept. 23, at 1:30 p.m.
