STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Mount Union men's soccer team defeated Franciscan 3-1 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (3-0) struck first when senior
Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from freshman
Dom Kustura (Willowick / Eastlake North) in the sixth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Barons (2-2) tied the game in the 63
rd minute when Ryan Miller scored on a penalty kick. The Raiders would then reclaim the lead in the 71
st minute when Kustura found Hancock again to take a 2-1 lead. Then, in the 77
th minute Hancock would score his third goal of the game and record his first career hat trick. Franciscan wouldn't have an answer over the final 13 minutes as Mount Union would go on to win 3-1.
The Raiders are back on the road next when they travel to Washington, Pa. to take on Washington & Jefferson on Saturday, September 9 at 1 p.m.
