MARIETTA, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference match up to Marietta Wednesday night 66-55.
The Purple Raiders (7-9, 4-5 OAC) were led by freshman
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) scoring 19 points, having five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Marietta (11-5, 6-3 OAC) was led by Paige Tolson with a game-high 24 points.
FIRST QUARTER
A back and forth start saw a lay up made from sophomore
Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) and Mason had the game tied at four. Marietta found a grove on offense scoring the next 12 points until junior
Hailey Haywood (Barberton) stopped the run with a layup as Mount Union trailed 16-6. Marietta would finish the quarter with a three to take a 19-6 lead into the quarter break.
SECOND QUARTER
Both teams started the quarter out scoring seven apiece as Marietta had a 26-13 lead with 3:55 remaining the quarter. Both teams battled the rest of the quarter with Marietta taking a 31-17 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
Mount Union came out firing on all cylinders as they went on an 8-0 run to start the quarter with junior
Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) and freshman
Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) making threes and Mason getting a driving layup closing to 31-25. Marietta would respond with a 14-2 run to take control of the game at 45-27. A bucket from Mason and two from sophomore
Audrey Livesay (Akron / Revere) at the end of the quarter brought the score to 49-33.
FOURTH QUARTER
A bucket from Marietta started the fourth but a 10-1 run including five points from Hudik brought the game to single digits at 52-43. Marietta responded with responded with a 7-0 run to give them a 16-point lead. Mount Union closed to within 10 twice but could not get any closer in the loss.
Mount Union returns to home to take on Wilmington in OAC play on Saturday with a 2 PM tip off.
