BEREA, Ohio – The No. 18 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team beat Baldwin Wallace in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup 100-68 on Wednesday evening.
With a three-pointer with 1:29 remaining in the first half senior
Collen Gurley (Akron / Hoban) became the All-Time Leading Scorer at the University of Mount Union.
Gurley broke the previous record of 1,719 points, which had been the record since 1998.
The Purple Raiders (15-3, 8-3 OAC) had two players score in double figures with senior
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with a 32-point, 11-rebound double-double. Gurley added in 15 points to round out the Raiders in double figures.
The Yellow Jackets (5-13, 2-9 OAC) were led by Nick Timberlake who scored a team-high 12 points and AJ Pestello who added 11 points.
After a back and forth first couple of minutes a jumper from Parker would spark a 17-3 Mount Union run over 4:48 of game time to give the Raiders a 23-9 lead with 12:28 to play in the first half. Mount Union would maintain their lead over the next eight minutes of the half before Baldwin Wallace would end the first half on a 15-8 run to cut the lead down to 49-39 heading into the halftime break.
The Raiders opened the second half with a 15-4 run over the first 5:06 of the half to extend their lead to 64-43 with 14:20 remaining in the game. Mount Union would continue adding to their lead over the final 14 minutes of the game with the largest being 34 points and the Yellow Jackets getting no closer than 18 as the Raiders would go on to win 100-68.
The Raiders return home next when they host Ohio Northern on Saturday, January 27 at 2 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
