BEREA, Ohio —The Mount Union women's basketball team fell 67-56 to Baldwin Wallace in Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday night at Upsprung Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders (5-7, 2-3 OAC) were led by a double-double from freshman
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore
Addison Mucci (Canton / St. Thomas Aquinas) finished in double digits with 14 points.
Baldwin Wallace was led by Emily Erwin with 17 points while Bella Vaillant finished with 11 rebounds.
The first half was a defensive battle for both teams as sophomore
Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central) got the Raiders on the board with a three at the 6:44 mark. Mount Union held Baldwin Wallace scoreless for the first 4:58 as Baldwin Wallace tied it up at 3 just before the halfway mark in the quarter. Mount Union got its largest lead of 7-3 on free throws from freshman
Tess Conroy (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights). Baldwin Wallace got another three before the buzzer as Mount Union led 7-6. Baldwin Wallace got the second going with a 10-0 run to lead 16-7. Baldwin Wallace kept the lead going into the halftime break at 25-14.
The second half saw Baldwin Wallace connect on two three's quickly to take a 31-14 lead. Mount Union used a 5-0 run of its own to get within 12 at 31-19. Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace battled back and forth through out the quarter as Mount Union got within six on a layup from Mason with 21 seconds left but a three from Erwin finished the quarter and gave Baldwin Wallace a 45-36 lead.
The final quarter saw Baldwin Wallace grab a lead of 17 three times with the last being at the 3:42 mark. Mount Union got within nine with 2:14 remaining as Mucci connected on a three but Baldwin Wallace kept the lead in double digits the rest of the way taking the 11 point victory.
Mount Union now returns home for an OAC game against Otterbein on Saturday, January 6 at 2 PM.
