Men's Soccer: Raiders Dominate Muskingum in OAC Play; Hancock Becomes All-Time Assists Leader

Harsch Records First Career Hat Trick

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team beat Muskingum 5-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

The Purple Raiders (10-3-1, 4-0 OAC) struck first when sophomore Tyler Harsch (Aliquippa, Pa. / Central Valley) found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Alex Depperschmidt (Mansfield / Lexington) in the 26th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Then, a little over two minutes later Harsch would net his second goal of the game this time off an assist from fifth-year Adam Kalvitz (Avon) to stretch the lead to two goals.

The Fighting Muskies (4-8-2, 0-4-0 OAC) would answer with a goal in the 48th minute, scoring off the foot of Ryan Watson to cut the lead to a goal.

However, in the 55th minute fifth-year Carter Hancock (Amherst / Marion L. Steele) would find junior Zander Plizga (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) for a goal to stretch the lead back to two goals. The assist would also mark the 25th of Hancock' career, breaking the school record that was set by Jeff Gurney in 1993.

Junior Luka Dedic (Eastlake / North) would net the Raiders' fourth goal of the game in the 68th minute, before Harsch would net his third goal of the game to record his first career hat trick in the 74th minute to stretch the lead to 5-1.

Muskingum wouldn't have an answer of the remainder of the game as Mount Union would go on to win 5-1.

The Purple Raiders return home next when they host Heidelberg in an OAC matchup on Saturday, October 19 at 7 p.m. in Kehres Stadium on Senior Night, with the seniors being honored at approximately 6:45 p.m.
