Women's Basketball: Raiders Use Strong Middle Quarters to Grab Win Over Kenyon

Box Score VIENNA, West Virginia—Mount Union's women's basketball team used a 51-20 run over the middle two quarters to defeat Kenyon 73-52 on day one of the 38th Annual Jim Meagle Classic Sponsored by BSN Sports hosted by Marietta College on Friday evening.
 
The Purple Raiders (3-0) were led by sophomore Abby Muckleroy (Canfield) connecting on four threes for 12 points. Senior Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) and freshman Cheslea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) finished with 10 points each while Evanich had a team-high six rebounds and six assists.
 
Kenyon (1-4) was led by Anissa Hardy with 14 points while Alyssa Gest finished with 12 points.
 
The first quarter went the way of Kenyon 15-12 as they shot 46.2% in the quarter as Mount Union just shot 25%. Mount Union had more offensive rebounds 3-to-1 but Kenyon outrebounded Mount Union 10-to-9 in the quarter.
 
The second quarter saw the Raiders offense and defense pick up outscoring Kenyon 20-8. The difference in the quarter was Mount Union's three-point shooting as they connected on four threes' while Kenyon finished the quarter with just one. Mount Union caused seven turnovers while having just three total.
 
Mount Union's offense stayed hot connecting on four threes' again scoring 26 points in the quarter and holding Kenyon to 11 total points. The Raiders defense caused six turnovers in the quarter as the offense only had one turnover in the quarter.
 
Kenyon could not close down the lead enough in the fourth quarter as they outscored Mount Union 16-11 in the final quarter.
 
Mount Union will now take on Calvin tomorrow at 12:30 PM in Marietta, Ohio
