ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team fell at home 58-46 to Case Western Reserve Tuesday evening at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
The Purple Raiders (3-2) were led by
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 12 points and eight rebounds. McKayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central Catholic) led the way in rebounding with nine.
Case Western Reserve (3-3) was led by Mya Hartjes with 23 points while Evie Miller finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Case got a three to start the game, but Mount Union responded with five straight points to lead with 7:28 remaining the quarter. Both teams traded the lead back and forth throughout the remaining of the quarter as Mount Union took the final lead as Mason hit a layup and two free throws to take a 14-12 lead.
Case started the quarter off with a 13-0 run to take a 25-17 lead. Mount Union got within six on a
Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) jumper at 25-19. Case finished off the quarter on a 7-3 run to take a 32-20 halftime lead.
Mount Union came out in the second half with a 5-0 run to get within seven. Mount Union held Case to no points through the first eight minutes of the quarter but Case found a couple buckets to end the quarter and led 41-29. Over the final 10 minutes Mount Union got within 11 but could not get any closer.
Mount Union now has a week break before starting Ohio Athletic Conference play taking on John Carroll on Wednesday, December 4
th at home at 7 PM.
