WILMINGTON, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball fell on the road 69-62 to Wilmington in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (3-5, 0-3 OAC) were led by
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) with 20 points and
Kayla Ferancy with 11 points.
Wilmington (3-5, 1-2 OAC) was led by Gabby Russell with 17 points and 10 rebounds while Alaiya Meaux finished with 15 points.
A tough shooting first quarter saw Mount Union connect on three field goals while Wilmington connected on five along with five free throws to lead 18-7. Mount Union got some momentum in the second quarter hitting 50% from three and the field outscoring Wilmington 23-20 in the quarter to trail 38-30 at the half.
Wilmington started the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 16-point lead. Mount Union got within five points on a 16-4 run but couldn't get closer against Wilmington over the final three minutes.
Mount Union will now head to Florida to compete in the Daytona Beach Shootout at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida on December 20 and 21. The first game will be against Simpson College at 2 PM and then against Anna Maria College on the second day at 4 PM.
