Men's Basketball: Parker Becomes First 2,000 Point Scorer in Program History in Loss Against Redlands

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Mount Union men's basketball team lost a non-conference game 91-69 against Redlands at the D3hoops.com Classic on Sunday evening.

With 17:58 remaining in the second half fifth-year Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) made a free throw to record his 2,000th career point, making him the first person in Mount Union history to reach that mark.

The Purple Raiders (6-4) had three players score in double figures with sophomore Elijah Farrington (Massillon / Massillon Washington) leading the way with a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double. Parker and graduate student Jonah McCartney scored 14 and 10 points respectively to round out the Raiders in double digits.

The Bulldogs (9-2) were led by Chozen Amadi who scored a team-high 17 points and Kendrick Currey who added in 15 points.

After a slow start by both teams Redlands would jump out to a 7-4 lead a little over four minutes into the game. The Raiders and Bulldogs would go back and forth over the next 5:45 of game time but Mount Union wouldn't be able to get closer than two points, giving Redlands a slim 21-19 lead with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs would then go on a 12-2 run over the next 2:46 of game time to push their lead out to 12 points with 7:15 left to play in the first half. They would maintain that lead over the next several minutes before closing the first half on a 13-0 run to take their largest lead of the game at 57-26 into the halftime break.

Redlands would open the second half with a 15-6 run over the first 3:55 of the half to push their lead out to 72-32 with 16:05 remaining in the game. The Bulldogs would maintain that lead over the next seven and a half minutes before the Raiders would go on a 14-2 run over the next 5:27 of action to cut the lead to 85-64, however that is as close as they would get as Redlands would go on to win 91-69.

The Raiders hit the road again next when they travel to Westerville, Ohio for an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against Otterbein on Saturday, January 4 at 3 p.m.
