GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Mount Union baseball team completed the three-game sweep over Guilford College on Sunday with an 11-5 win.
The Purple Raiders (3-0) scored four runs in the second inning, two in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the eighth, and one in the ninth.
Senior
Andrew Witte (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) got the scoring started with a 3-run triple in the second. Senior
Jaired Lehman (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) also connected on a triple. Graduate
Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic) had a double, while junior
Nathan Grega (Hartville, Ohio / Lake) added two RBIs.
Freshman pitcher
Christopher Mauer (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) earned the win after coming in for relief, throwing 3.0 innings and giving up two runs off three hits and striking out four.
Mount Union is back on the diamond next Sunday, Feb. 25 with a doubleheader against Ithaca College and Case Western Reserve, starting at 11 a.m. The doubleheader will take place at Washington and Jefferson.
