NEW CONCORD, Ohio—Grad student Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W. Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic) broke the national record in the 500-Meters Friday night at the first day of the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Purple Raiders currently lead after day one with a score of 74 points which is six points ahead of Ohio Northern with 68.

To earn All-OAC honors you must place in the top three in your event.

Wayt won the 500-Meters at the OAC championships with a time of 1:13.23 which is .96 faster than the time set last year by Grace DeVanny from Wesleyan (Conn.) last year.

Wayt also set an OAC record in the 60-Meter dash running 7.61 in the prelims which is .01 faster than she did last year.

Two All-OAC honorees in the 400-Meters came from a second-place finish by junior Mary Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and a third-place finish by Elizabeth Funkhouser (Carrollton) with times of 57.65 and 59.50. Mason's time will convert to a faster time for the national meet and currently sits around 15th in Division III.

The quartet of seniors Erin Smith (Dover), Leah Costello (Geneva), Gia Venuto (Ravenna / Southeast) and freshman Kristen Walters (Cuyahoga Falls) took second place in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 12:31.62.
