Women's Basketball: Raiders Almost Upset Capital at Home

ALLIANCE, Ohio- The Mount Union women's basketball team fell 81-74 to Capital in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon in the Play4Kay Game.
 
The Purple Raiders (7-14, 4-10 OAC) were led by junior Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) with 20 points and nine rebounds.
 
Junior Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) and freshman Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) finished with 15 points each has both connected on five threes. Freshman Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) finished with double digits as she scored 14 points.
 
Capital (15-6, 10-4 OAC) was led by Bri O'Connor with 29 points and Samaree Perkins with 18 points.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Mount Union jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead as Hudik connected on two threes within 40 seconds of each other. Capital responded with 12 straight points until a jumper from Mason stopped the run. The teams traded baskets to end out the quarter as Capital led 21-16.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Capital pushed the lead out to 14 taking a 38-24 lead with 3:42 remaining in the half but Mount Union closed the half on a 5-0 run with a three from freshman Tess Conroy (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) and a jumper from Mason to trail by nine at the half.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Mount Union came out of the half firing on all cylinders as they tied the game on a 12-3 run as Hudik hit two threes while Nash and Triplett each had one. Neither team led by more than three the rest of the quarter as there were two ties and five lead changes.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Capital early I the quarter pushed the lead to 56-52 but a three from Nash brought it within one with 7:29 to play. Capital however pushed the lead out to six with 3:17 remaining and Mount Union couldn't close the lead getting as close as three at 74-71 but Capital finished out the game connecting on four free throws.
 
Mount Union will return to the court next Wednesday heading to University Heights to take on John Carroll at 7 PM
