Men's Lacrosse: Raiders Fourth Quarter Comeback Not Enough in Road Loss

STUBENENVILLE, Ohio—A strong fourth quarter almost led the Mount Union men's lacrosse team to a victory in a 14-12 loss to Franciscan Wednesday afternoon.
 
The Purple Raiders (4-4) were led by Spencer Logsdon (Akron / Archbishop Hoban) and Obright Tallchief (Angola, N.Y. / LakeShore) with three goals each.
 
Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South) score two goals for Mount Union while Alec Feigel (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills), Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior), Grant Dunmire (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Hampton) and sly Sundown (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) each had a goal.
 
Alec Blazer (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) led the Raiders in caused turnovers with three while Stephen Moschetta (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Trinity) made 15 saves in the game.
 
Franciscan (7-2) was led by Joseph James and Samuel Marshall with four goals each while Richard Vale made 13 saves in goal.
 
FIRST QUARTER
Franciscan got on the board with the first three goals and held Mount Union almost scoreless through the first quarter until a goal from Tallchief with 2:22 remaining in the quarter. Franciscan tacked on one more goal to have a 4-1 lead.
 
SECOND QUARTER
Mount Union went on a small 2-0 run in the middle of the quarter to get within one at 4-3 with 5:26 remaining in the quarter. Franciscan pushed the lead out to 7-3 over the final 4:09 going into the halftime break.
 
THIRD QUARTER
Franciscan came out of the break adding two goals taking a 9-3 lead until a goal from Sundown brought the game back within five. Franciscan held Mount Union scoreless the rest of the quarter while adding two goals taking an 11-4 lead into the final quarter.
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Mount Union started its fourth quarter comeback scoring the first four goals in the first 3:54 of the quarter with Erwin, Dunmire, Feigel and Tallchief each grabbing a goal. Franciscan stopped the scoring run with a goal to take a 12-8 lead but a 3-0 run from the Raiders this time as Logsdon scored two and Zusman grabbing a goal got Mount Union within one with 5:39 remaining. Franciscan got two goals to push the lead out to three with 2:40 left as Mount Union got one more goal from Logsdon but could not get any closer.
 
Mount Union opens Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday heading to Bexley to take on Capital at 1 PM.
