GRANVILLE, Ohio—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team fell to Denison, who made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA last spring, 21-6 in a matchup on Wednesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (5-3) were led by senior
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) with three goals, and senior
Eden Kesler (Chargin Falls / Kenston) with two goals, while sophomore
Ella Nejad (Rocky River) each got one goal. Graduate Student
Britta Treu (Auburn Township / Kenston) had two assists and Senior
Tara Santoro (Canfield) had 3 groundballs.
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) had 10 saves for the Raiders.
Leading Denison (5-4) was Josie Lucchesi with seven goals, and Sydey Lavin with two assists. While Maddie Morrell and Mary Daniel each had three groundballs.
FIRST QUARTER
Denison was able to get the first goal of the game 4 minutes into the quarter and sent the tone of the matchup with led to a 4-0 scoring run making that the score going into the next quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
The Raiders came out ready to fight getting the first goal of this quarter, when Nejad found Clark for the point, within the first 4 minutes of this quarter, but still trailing 4-1. Denison responded with a quick 3-0 scoring run to extend their lead 7-1. The Raiders responded with another goal from Clark off a feed from Treu. Denison was able to get two quick goals to respond making the score 9-2. The Raiders were able to get the last goal of the quarter from Kesler making the score going into the half 9-3 with Denison still leading.
THIRD QUARTER
This quarter was all Denison, they were able shutout the Purple Raiders with a 7-0 scoring run which allowed them to take a 16-3 lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
Denison set the tone again getting the first goal of the quarter, but Mount Union responded quickly making the score 17-4 early in the quarter. Both teams went back and forth getting points, until Denison was able to break the battle ending the game on a 3-0 scoring run making the final 21-6.
Mount Union will return home to take on Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference
matchup on Wednesday, April 3rd at 7 p.m.
