ADA, Ohio—The Mount Union men's lacrosse team dropped a defensive battle 8-3 against Ohio Northern in Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (6-10, 2-6 OAC) was led by
Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior),
Cole Niemann (Idaho Falls, Id. / Idaho Falls) and
Braylon Li (Richfield / Revere) with a goal each.
Logan Gunderman (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hamburg) was in goal making 13 saves while
Alec Blazer (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) finished with six ground balls.
Ohio Northern (11-5, 6-2 OAC) was led by John Lynn with three goals while Cole Zaferakis made eight saves.
FIRST QUARTER
Ohio Northern got the first two goals of the game but Erwin grabbed a goal for Mount Union as the Raiders trailed 2-1 after the first quarter of play.
SECOND QUARTER
Ohio Northern got the first goal to start the second quarter but Niemann scored a goal for Mount Union to get back within one. Ohio Northern found the back of the net again at 11:05 left in the quarter to take a 4-2 lead. Neither team grabbed another goal the rest of the quarter heading into the break.
THIRD QUARTER
There were only two goals in the third quarter as Ohio Northern grabbed both of those to take a 6-2 lead heading into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
A goal from Li gave Mount Union just a three-goal deficit but Ohio Northern closed out the quarter on a 2-0 run to take the 8-3 victory.
Mount Union will finish its season next Wednesday at home taking on John Carroll at 7 PM.
