Track and Field: Strom, Gill, Shannon and Zeren Break 4x100-Meter Record

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Tyler Gill (Greenville, Pa. / Reynolds), Jared Strom (Barberton), Tylir Shannon (Transfer, Pa. / Reynolds) and Vinny Zeren (Louisville / St. Thomas Aquinas) set a school record in the 4x100-Meter relay running a time of 40.19 making it the sixth fastest in Division III history Thursday evening at the Mount Union Last Chance Meet.
 
The quartet broke an 18 year old record which was held by Nic Saluppo, Pierre Garcon, James Cunningham, Johnny Biacofsky. This time also puts the Raiders second in Division III this year and sixth all-time.
 
Gill joined Justin Knoch (Canton / GlenOak), Josh Fouche (Cuyahoga Falls / Walsh Jesuit) and Haden Gibson (Brookfield) won the 4x400-Meter relay with a time of 3:12.22.
 
Vincent Giumenti (Dover) won the 1,500-Meters with a time of 3:48.61 which is ranked 24th in Division III just outside of the top 22 for making the national meet. He will wait till tomorrow to see if there are scratches to make the national meet.
 
Matt McBride (Conneaut) along with Storm took the top two spots in the 400-Meters with times of 47.42 and 48.43.
 
Zeren came back in the 100-Meters to take the victory in 10.62 as well.
 
Maddy Miles (Brunswick / Padua Franciscan), Halle Cochran (Salem), Mary Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and Elizabeth Funkhouser (Carrollton) took the victory in the 4x400-Meter relay with a time of 3:51.15.
 
The quartet of Miles, Cochran, Kenadee Wayt (Wheeling, W.Va. / Wheeling Central Catholic),and Kalie Campbell (Wooster / Triway) took home second in the 4x100-Meter Relay with a time of 47.63.
 
Brady Burrey (Bellefontaine) finished second in the javelin with a toss of 191-feet 1-inch.
 
Shannon finished third overall and the second collegiate in the 200-Meters with a time of 21.67.
 
Aaron Blevins (Windham) finished third in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet 3.25-inches and third in the decathlon with 5,706 points.
 
Laney Duff (Millersburg / West Holmes) took home third in the long jump with a leap of 16-feet 9.75-inches.
 
Makayla Sitzlar (Sugarcreek / Garaway) finished third in the shot-put throwing it 44-feet .75-inches.
 
Blaine Kitchen (Tontogany / Otsego) finished third in the 400-Meter hurdles with a time of 53.43.
 
Drake Willenborg (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) was the top collegiate athlete and fourth overall in the discus with a toss of 159-feet 11-inches.
 
Curtis Joppeck (New London) finished third out of the collegiate athletes and fourth overall in the 800-Meter with a time of 1:52.59.
 
Mount Union will now await results from today and find out if they make the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships next week hosted in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
