Mount Union's Bill Borchert on College Football Hall of Fame Ballot

| By:
IRVING, Texas - Former Mount Union quarterback Bill Borchert '98 is on the 2025 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, announced by the National Football Foundation (NFF) and the College Hall of Fame.

The nominations include 77 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 101 players and 34 coaches from the divisional ranks.

"It's an enormous honor to just be on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot considering more than 5.7 million people have played college football and only 1,093 players have been inducted," said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. "The Hall's requirement of being a First Team All-American creates a much smaller pool of about 1,500 individuals who are even eligible. Being in today's elite group means an individual is truly among the greatest to have ever played the game, and we look forward to announcing the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class early next year."

Borchert was a two-time All-American that played under center for the Purple Raiders from 1994-97. Mount Union went 50-3 over those four seasons, winning four Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) titles and NCAA Division III National Championships in 1996 and 1997. He won the 1997 Gagliardi Trophy, given to NCAA Division III's top all-around player, the 1996 and 1997 OAC Mike Gregory Awards as the conference's top offensive back and was a three-time All-OAC First Team selection. He held the school's career record in passing yards (14,482) and still holds the career passing touchdown record (189). He accounted for school records in total offense (15,308 yards) and touchdowns responsible for (200). As a senior in 1997, he threw a school record 63 touchdown passes (still stands today). Borchert has already been inducted into the Greater Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Mount Union M Club Hall of Fame in 2013. The Parma, Ohio native graduated from Mount Union in 1998 with a degree in business administration and marketing, and is currently a sales executive with IBM and lives with his wife Erin and daughters Lauren and Emily in Richfield.

Mount Union has one coach and one player already in the College Football Hall of Fame as former head coach and athletic director Larry Kehres was inducted in 2017 while former quarterback Jim Ballard was inducted in 2008.

The ballot was emailed today to the more than 12,000 NFF members and current Hall of Famers whose votes will be tabulated and submitted to the NFF's Honors Court, which will deliberate and select the class. (Individuals can cast a vote this year by clicking here to become an NFF member.)

The announcement of the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be made in early 2025, with specific details to be announced in the future.

The 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 9, 2025 at the Bellagio Hotel & Resort, and they will also be honored at their respective schools with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments, during the 2025 season.
