Men's Basketball: Raiders Ice Out Polar Bears in Road Conference Win

ADA, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team defeated Ohio Northern 76-61 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.

The Purple Raiders (10-5, 7-1 OAC) had four players score in double figures with fifth year Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) leading the way with a game-high 23 points. Sophomore Elijah Farrington (Massillon / Massillon Washington) scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to record his sixth consecutive double-double, while freshman Chance Casenhiser (Uniontown / Lake) and senior Marcus Steele (Solon) added in 15 and 10 points respectively to round out the Raiders in double digits.

The Polar Bears (9-6, 3-5 OAC) were led by Theo Maag who scored a team-high 13 points and J.J. Morris who added in 11.

Mount Union jumped out to an early 10-4 lead just three minutes into the game, they would continue building on this lead with a 16-4 run over the next seven and a half minutes of game time to take a 26-8 lead with just over nine minutes remaining in the first half. The Raiders would maintain this lead over the next several minutes, stretching it out to as large as 21 before Ohio Northern would go on a 14-4 run over the final six and a half minutes of the first half to cut the lead down to 36-25 heading into the halftime break.

Mount Union would maintain their lead over the first six and a half minutes of the second half before a 10-4 Polar Bear run cut the lead down to 59-54 with 9:20 remaining in the game. The Raiders would answer with a 17-5 run of their own over 6:14 of game time to push the lead out to 17 with just two minutes left to play in the game. Ohio Northern wouldn't have an answer as Mount Union would go on to win 76-61.

The Raiders return home next when they host OAC opponent Muskingum on Wednesday, January 22 at 7 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
