Men's Soccer: Raiders Win Back and Forth Match at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated Marietta 6-4 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

The Purple Raiders (11-2-4, 4-1-2 OAC) would strike first when sophomore Amir Spratt (Kent / Kent Roosevelt) was able to find the back of the net in the eighth minute to take a 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers (5-11-2, 2-5-0 OAC) would answer with a goal of their own when Parker Bolin scored in the 15th minute to tie the game at a goal apiece.

Mount Union would reclaim the lead in the 19th minute when Spratt scored his second goal of the game this time off an assist from junior Dom Kustura (Willowick / Eastlake North), they would then follow that up with another goal from junior Alex Depperschmidt (Masnfield / Lexington) while senior Zander Plizga (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) picked up the assist.

Marietta would trim the lead back down to a goal in the 41st minute when Bolin found the back of the net for the second time on the night to cut the lead to 3-2. The Raiders would push the lead back to two goals in the 61st minute when senior Reese Utter (Dover) scored off an assist from Depperschmidt before the Pioneers would answer just 16 seconds later when Zach Kern scored to cut the lead to 4-3.

Marietta would then tie the game at four goals apiece in the 66th minute when Sam Holthaus found the back of the net. Spratt would then score his third goal of the night and his first career hat trick off an assist from Utter in the 78th minute to give the Raiders a 5-4 lead. Then, Utter would score his second goal of the game off a penalty kick in the 82nd minute and give Mount Union a two-goal lead as they would go on to win 6-4.

The Raiders are back home for their regular season finale on Saturday, November 1 at 7 p.m. when they host OAC foe Capital in Kehres Stadium.
