WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania—Mount Union's women's basketball team fell 66-65 to Washington and Jefferson Saturday afternoon.
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 20 points and grabbing six rebounds for Mount Union (3-1) in the loss.
Reese Triplett (New Philadelphia / Tuscarawas Central Catholic) scored double digits as well with 11 points.
Washington and Jefferson (3-0) was led by Riley DeRubbo and Katie Kovalchick with 19 points a piece.
W&J got out to a 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Mount Union battled back in the second quarter out scoring the hosts 16-15 only trailing 35-28 at halftime.
W&J outscored Mount Union in the third quarter 26-19 taking a 61-47 lead into the final quarter where Mount Union almost mounted a comeback falling just short outscoring W&J 18-5 but falling 66-65.
Mount Union will return home for its home opener against Grove City on Tuesday at 7 pm.
