ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's women's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent Geneva 82-46 on Tuesday evening.
The Purple Raiders (7-1) were led by junior
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) who scored a game-high 17 points, with sophomore
Kayla Ferancy (Amherst / Amherst Steele) adding nine points and nine rebounds and sophomore
Chelsea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) scoring eight points.
The Golden Tornadoes (1-3) were led by Emily Garvin who scored a team-high 10 points and Anna Ulmer who scored nine.
Mount Union would open the game with a 13-2 run over the first 5:11 of the first quarter. Geneva would answer with a 7-2 run over the next four minutes of game time to cut the lead to six with 1:11 remaining in the quarter before an Evanich three with 21 seconds would push the lead back up to nine and give the Raiders an 18-9 lead to end the first quarter.
The Raiders would open the second quarter with another big 13-1 run over the first five and a half minutes to push the lead out to 23 with 4:04 left to play in the half. The remainder of the quarter would be a back-and-forth affair with neither team gaining much ground as Mount Union would take a 41-20 lead into the halftime break.
The Raiders and Tornadoes would go back and forth over the first three minutes of the third quarter before Mount Union would go on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to take their largest lead of the game at 66-28 with just under three minutes to play in the quarter. Geneva would answer with an 8-0 run of their own to end the quarter, however they would still trail 8-0 heading to the fourth and final quarter.
Geneva wasn't able to get closer than 28 over the course of the fourth quarter as Mount Union would go on to win 82-46.
The Raiders hit the road next as they travel to Berea to open up Ohio Athletic Conference play against Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday, December 2 at 7 p.m.
