Men's Basketball: Raiders Hot Second Half Leads to Seventh Straight Win

ALLIANCE, Ohio—The Mount Union men's basketball team extended its winning streak to seven with an 81-72 victory over Wooster in non-conference action Wednesday night at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
 
Mount Union (7-0) was led by Elijah Farrington (Massillon / Massillon Washington) with 24 points and nine rebounds. Kevin Hamilton (Akron / St. Vincent St. Mary) finished the night with three for six from three and added 17 points while Kevin Moore (Youngstown / Campbell Memorial) finished with 10. Caleb Laurich (Akron / Copley) finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
 
Wooster (2-3) was led by Quincy Jones with 17 points while Jaiden Cox-Holloway with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Mount Union started the game with a step back bucket from Chance Casenhiser (Uniontown / Lake). Back and forth baskets from the teams saw both teams tied at eight but three straight buckets for Mount Union put them up 14-8 with 13:31 remaining in the first half.
 
Wooster responded with a 24-8 run taking a 10-point lead going into the final five minutes of the first half. Mount Union responded with a 12-4 run to close within two at 36-34, heading into the halftime break.
 
Wooster pushed its lead out to five early in the second half but seven straight points from Moore and an alleyoop dunk from Shaun Vader (Cleveland / Cornerstone Christian) gave Mount Union a 44-40 lead with 14:10 remaining.
 
Mount Union extended its lead out to 56-44 with 11:17 remaining on two free throws from Farrington. Mount Union kept the lead between six to 11 points until 3:50 remaining as Wooster went on an 8-0 run to get within one at 69-68.
 
Mount Union got its lead back out to seven after a Hamilton three-pointer leading 77-70 with just 1:31 remaining. Farrington connected on four straight free throws down the final stretch for Mount Union icing the game away.
 
Mount Union will take the Thanksgiving break off and return to play next Saturday opening up Ohio Athletic Conference play at home against Otterbein at 1 PM.
