NORTH MANCHESTER, Indiana—The Mount Union women's basketball team outscored Manchester 46-34 over the second and third quarter on their way to a 79-65 victory in the Teammates for Life championship game Sunday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (2-0) were led by
Mckayla Dunkle (Cadiz / Harrison Central Catholic) with 24 points.
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and
Chelsea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) finished in double digits with 15 and 11 respectively.
Mason and
Tess Conroy (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) led the way rebounding with five each.
Manchester (1-1) was led by Abigail Rosenkrans with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Manchester held an early lead of 15-13 at the end of the first quarter but Mount Union responded by outscoring Manchester 21-16 in the second quarter to take a 34-31 halftime lead.
Mount Union used a strong third quarter, outscoring Manchester 25-18 taking a 59-49 lead into the final quarter. Over the final quarter Mount Union outscored Manchester 20-16 on its to the victory.
Mount Union shot 33 of 54 from the field (61.1%) and seven of 11 from the three (63.6%) while holding Manchester to 22 of 49 from the field (44.9%) and six of 16 from the three (37.5%)
Mount Union will now head to Washington, Pa. next Friday at 6 pm for the W&J classic taking on Westminster (Pa.) at Washington and Jefferson College.
