ALLIANCE, Ohio – The no. 9 nationally ranked Mount Union men's basketball team defeated Baldwin Wallace 87-68 in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Tuesday evening.
The win improved Mount Union's record to 10-0 which matches the best start in school history when the Raiders went 10-0 in the 1925-26 season.
The Purple Raiders (10-0, 3-0 OAC) had four players score in double figures with sophomore
Chance Casenhiser (Uniontown / Lake) leading the way with a game-high 19 points. Sophomore
Jack Dunbar (McMurray, Pa. / Peters Township) scored a career-high 12 points, while junior
Kevin Hamilton (Akron / St. Vincent St. Mary) and senior
Dante Collier (Columbus / Licking Heights) scored 13 and 11 points respectively to round out the Raiders in double digits.
The Yellow Jackets (1-8, 0-3 OAC) were led by Titus Baskerville who scored a team-high 14 points and Brock Beech who added in 13.
Mount Union would jump out to an early 10-4 lead over the first four minutes of action before Baldwin Wallace would slowly start chipping away at the lead over the next 4:47 of game time to tie the game at 22 apiece with 11:21 remaining in the second half. The Raiders would then go on a massive 32-4 run over the next nine minutes of the half to take a 54-26 lead with just 2:18 to play in the half. Both teams would trade baskets over the remainder of the half as Mount Union would take a 59-32 lead into the halftime break.
The Yellow Jackets would open the second half with a 10-5 run over the first four and a half minutes to cut the lead down to 19. A couple minutes later Baldwin Wallace would go on an 11-4 run over 4:50 of game action to cut the lead down to 71-58 with just over eight minutes left to play. That's as close as they would get, however, as Mount Union would go on to win 87-68.
The Raiders are home again next when they host Ohio Northern on Saturday, December 20 at 1 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
