ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's men's basketball team lost an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup 79-77 against Wilmington on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (13-6, 10-2 OAC) had three players score in double figures with junior
Kevin Moore (Youngstown / Campbell Memorial) leading the way with a game-high 23 points. Fifth-year
Christian Parker (Canton / GlenOak) added in 19 points and freshman
Chance Casenhiser (Uniontown / Lake) scored 18 points to round out the Raiders in double digits.
The Quakers (5-15, 3-9 OAC) were led by Rashid Chisholm and Domenic Farley who scored 20 points apiece.
Both teams would trade baskets over the first three minutes of game time before a quick 7-0 run over the next 1:52 saw Mount Union take a 12-6 lead with 15:15 remaining in the first half. Wilmington would answer with a 12-6 run of their own over the next 6:16 of action to tie the game at 18 apiece with just under nine minutes left to play in the first half. A little over two minutes later the Quakers would go on a 9-1 run to take their largest lead of the game at 37-30 with two and a half minutes remaining in the half. The Raiders would close the half on a 6-2 run to cut the lead down to three, making it 39-36 heading into the halftime break.
Mount Union would open the second half with a 9-2 run over the first four minutes to reclaim the lead at 45-43 with 15:33 remaining in the game. The Raiders would continue adding to their lead over the next four minutes of game time as it would get up to 53-46 with just over 11 minutes left to play in the game. Wilmington would slowly chip away at the lead over the next five minutes before reclaiming it at 61-60 with 6:13 remaining in the game. Mount Union would answer once again with a 9-4 run of their own to take a 69-65 lead with just over four minutes left to play. The Quakers would go on to outscore the Raiders 14-8 over the final four minutes of action including the go-ahead three-pointer for Farley to take the 79-77 victory.
The Raiders are home again next when they host no. 23 nationally ranked John Carroll in an OAC matchup on Wednesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
