BEREA, Ohio—The Mount Union women's basketball team fell on the road 63-47 to No. 9/10 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday night in Ohio Athletic Play.
The Purple Raiders (12-12, 7-10 OAC) were led by Cheslea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) with nine points.
No. 9/10 Baldwin Wallace (23-1, 17-0 OAC) was led by Maddie Ebbert with 11 points.
Mount Union jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a
Dae Dae Nash (Akron / Buchtel) three and Evanich jumper. Baldwin Wallace responded with a 10-2 run leading 10-7 with 5 minutes left in the quarter. Both teams traded jumpers and layups as Evanich got the final point on a free throw as Mount Union trailed 14-12.
Mount Union tied the game up to start the second quarter on a layup from
Kayla Ferancy (Amherst / Amherst Steele) and an
Abby Muckleroy (Canfield) three pointer. Baldwin Wallace responded the remaining of the quarter with a 10-4 run to take a 27-21 lead into the halftime break.
Baldwin Wallace got the first five points of the third quarter pushing the lead out to 32-21. Mount Union got back into the game with a 9-4 run as four different Raiders got in the score book. Baldwin Wallace would respond with a 7-0 run to the end the quarter however taking a 42-30 lead into the final quarter.
Mount Union got going with a jumper from Evanich, a three from
Tess Conroy and a layup from
Ali Hudik (Mentor / Lake Catholic) as Mount Union got within five at 42-37. Baldwin Wallace responded with an 8-2 run over a 1:34 stretch as they took a 50-39 lead with 5:51 remaining. Mount Union made one last run at Baldwin Wallace with a 4-0 run cutting the lead to seven, but Baldwin Wallace proved too much for Mount Union ending the game on a 7-2 run.
Mount Union returns to play on Saturday as they take on Ohio Northern at home for Senior day honoring the three Mount Union seniors.
