Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Use Strong First Quarter to Grab Victory Over Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pennsylvania—The Mount Union women's lacrosse team defeated Allegheny 17-7 Wednesday night in non-conference play.
 
The Purple Raiders (2-1) were led by Emily Funk (Strongsville) with five goals.
 
Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit) finished the night with two goals and three assists while Mae Pawlikowski (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park) finished the game with two goals and two assists.
 
Ella Nejad (Rocky River) finished with two goals while Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor), Nirvana Coleman (Fredericksburg, Va. / Massaponax), Ella Sinopoli (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima), Reese Fuenfstueck (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport), Dalyn Jaskolka (Brunswick) and Ruby Robatin (Brecksville / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) each scored a goal.
 
Sophie Graves (Fairport, N.Y. / Penfield) and Madlyn Sams (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Chartiers Valley) led the way on defense with two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
 
Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) started the first 15 minutes but didn't face a shot while Abby Reagan (Columbus / St. Francis De Sales) played the remaining 45 minutes making 11 saves and letting up the seven goals.
 
Allegheny (0-2) was by Lauren Petrarca, Caroline Smith and Ema Caragein with two goals each while Macy Simons started in goal allowing 13 goals and picking up three saves.
 
Mount Union jumped out to an 11-0 start in the first quarter while only taking 14 shots in the quarter and allowing 0 Allegheny shots. From there the second and third quarter were even with both teams scoring two goals a quarter as Mount Union had a 15-4 lead. The final quarter Allegheny outscored the Raiders but just 3-2 as Mount Union took home the victory.
 
Mount Union now welcomes No. 23 nationally ranked Denison tomorrow in Alliance with a 4 PM start time.
