LEXINGTON, Kentucky—The Mount Union men's lacrosse team dropped its first game of the season in overtime to Transylvania 12-11 Friday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders (5-1) were led by
Braylon Li (Richfield / Revere) with three goals.
Mark Zusman (Willoughby / Willoughby South),
Talon Osmun (Mattawan, Mich. / Mattawan) and
Liam Erwin (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior) finished with two goals each while
Josh Pasco (Wadsworth) and
Sly Sundown (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) each scored one goal.
Logan North (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canon-McMillan) finished with six ground balls while
Logan Gunderman (Buffalo, N.Y. / Hamburg) mad 11 saves in goal for Mount Union.
Transylvania (5-4) was led by
Jack Miller with four goals, Briggs Beck with five ground balls and Nick DeGrandi finished with eight saves.
Zusman got the first goal of the game for Mount Union but three straight for Transylvania gave them a 3-1 lead. Osmun scored the final goal of the first quarter as Mount Union trailed 3-2 at the first quarter break.
Transylvania scored the only two goals of the second quarter taking a 5-2 lead into the halftime break.
Zusman got Mount Union on the board in the third quarter first but Transylvania scored two goals to take a 7-3 lead. A goal from Sundown and a goal from Transylvania ended the third quarter with Mount Union trailing 8-4.
The fourth quarter Mount Union got the first goal from Li but another two goals from Transylvania looked to put the game away. Mount Union however had different plans going on a 6-1 run to end the quarter as they used two separate 3-0 runs. Li scored two goals while Pasco had a goal in the first run and then a 31 second period saw three Mount Union goals as Erwin had two and Osmun had one with less than two minutes remaining.
In overtime Mount Union got two shots at goal but neither would go in the net as Transylvania finished the game on a goal.
Mount Union will now return home with a game on Wednesday against Allegheny at 7 PM in Kehres Stadium.
