Baseball: Mount Union Wraps Up Florida Road Trip

CHAIN O'LAKES, Fla. - The Mount Union baseball team (5-6) concluded its Florida road trip on Saturday, splitting two games: a 13-7 victory against Roger Williams and a 9-7 loss to Rutgers-Camden.

Purple Raiders first baseman Johnny Costella (Cleveland, Ohio / Trinity) had a strong performance in game one, going three-for-four with a walk and RBI. Right fielder Chris Tsouras (Las Vegas, NV / Arbor) went three-for-five with three RBIs, including a big RBI triple in the second inning.

Mount Union was behind 6-5 in the third inning but made a strong comeback, scoring seven more runs while limiting Roger Williams to just one additional run. Right-handed pitcher Chris Phillips (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria Catholic) earned the save,l pitching 4.0 innings with three strikeouts.

The second game against Rutgers-Camden was a tightly contested battle, with both teams exchanging leads throughout. Although the Purple Raiders put up a strong fight, they ultimately fell short, losing 9-7. A two-run home run by Tsouras late in the game energized the team, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory.

Mount Union's next game will be their home opener against Penn State Behrend on Thursday at 4:00 PM.
