Women's Lacrosse: Raiders Defense Shines in OAC Semifinal Win Over Baldwin Wallace

ALLIANCE, Ohio—Mount Union's women's lacrosse team defeated Baldwin Wallace 12-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals Wednesday night at Kehres Stadium.
 
The Purple Raiders (13-4) were led by Ella Nejad (Rocky River) with three goals.
 
Mae Pawlikowski (Orchard Park, N.Y. / Orchard Park), Katie Clark (Hudson / Walsh Jesuit), Emily Funk (Strongsville), and Eden Kesler (Chagrin Falls / Kenston) each had two goals while Reese Fuenfstueck (Fairport, N.Y. / Fairport) finished with a goal.
 
Mackenzie Kolstad (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) and Sophie Graves (Fairport, N.Y. / Penfield) each caused three turnovers while Abby Lindkvist (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) was in goal making 13 saves for the Raiders.
 
Baldwin Wallace (10-9) was led by Clare Alic with five goals, Lauren Comack with two caused turnovers and Caroline Potteiger was in goal making four saves.
 
Mount Union jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Kesler, Clark and Funk. Baldwin Wallace finished the first quarter with a 2-1 run as Nejad scored for Mount Union.
 
To start the second quarter Mount Union once again had a 3-0 run with Kesler, Nejad and Clark scoring goals. In a déjà vu moment Baldwin Wallace finished the half on a 2-1 run as Nejad score for Mount Union once again as the Raiders took an 8-4 lead into the halftime break.
 
The third quarter was all Baldwin Wallace as they held Mount Union goalless while scoring four goals to tie the game up heading into the fourth quarter.
 
Mount Union settled down in the fourth quarter with a 3-0 run in the first 3:16 of the quarter as Fuenfstueck, Pawlikowski and Funk each scored. Baldwin Wallace responded with a goal just a minute later to pull within two. Mount Union's defense shut down Baldwin Wallace the rest of the way as Pawlikowski scored on last goal with five seconds remaining.
 
Mount Union will now host the OAC Championships on Saturday at 1 PM taking on the 2-seed John Carroll a 26-17 winner over 3-seed Capital.
