Softball: Raiders Conclude Season in NCAA Tournament

SALISBURY, Md. – Mount Union's softball team lost in an NCAA Tournament elimination game 2-1 against no. 20 nationally ranked Pfeiffer on Saturday morning.

With a double in the bottom of the first inning against Pfeiffer, senior Adri George (Eastlake / North) broke the school record for career doubles, recording the 46th of her career. The record which was set by current head coach Meghan Simons had stood since 2010.

The Purple Raiders (28-14) would then get on the board first when senior Tori Sickafoose (Magnolia / Sandy Valley) hit an RBI single that scored sophomore Karlie Davis (St. Leon, Ind. / East Central) to take a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons (37-8) would come back to tie the game at a run apiece in the bottom half of the fifth when Charly Cooper hit an RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth inning play was suspended due to weather and darkness and was resumed this morning at 10 a.m.

Pfeiffer would score in the bottom of the eighth when Landry Stewart hit a sacrifice fly RBI to give the Falcons a 2-1 victory.

Freshman Emma Reemsnyder (Canton / GlenOak) got the start in the circle for Mount Union, giving up one run on five hits and struck out two in 4.2 innings of action. Sophomore Haleigh McCalla (Youngstown / Springfield Local) would come in to pitch 1.1 innings in relief and gave up zero runs on zero hits. Junior Chloe Bird (Norton) came in to pitch 1.0 inning in relief and gave up one run on three hits. Junior Kendyll Cahill (Groveport / Groveport Madison) came in to throw the final 0.2 innings and gave up zero runs on zero hits.

Cahill and junior Lydia Brunner (Minerva) were both named to the Salisbury Regional All-Tournament Team for their performances over the weekend.

The Raiders finish the season with a 28-14 overall record, going 13-5 in Ohio Athletic Conference play and claiming their second OAC Tournament Title in three seasons. This also marked the third consecutive season that Mount Union qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
