WILMINGTON, Ohio—Mount Union's women's basketball team came away with a 79-44 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Wilmington Saturday afternoon dominating the final three quarters outscoring Wilmington 68-26.
The Purple Raiders (11-4, 3-3 OAC) were led by
Chelsea Evanich (Alliance / Marlington) with a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds.
Bree McCabe (Massillon / Tuslaw) also added double digit points with 10.
Wilmington (4-10, 1-4 OAC) was led by Stephanie Altstaetter with 11 points.
Wilmington jumped out to a 4-0 lead but a layup from
Elizabeth Mason (Alliance / Marlington) and three points from Evanich gave Mount Union a 5-4 lead. Wilmington outscored Mount Union for the rest of the first quarter 14-6, taking an 18-11 lead into the second quarter.
Wilmington got its largest lead 19-11 but Mount Union closed with a 5-0 run in a 2:30 stretch. Mount Union took the lead on a 9-0 run from the 5:03 mark to the 3:42 mark with four different Raiders scoring taking a 27-22 lead. Wilmington battled back to tie the game at 29 but a 7-0 run over the final 1:14 for Mount Union gave them a 36-29 lead at halftime.
Mount Union pushed its lead out to 12 to start the third quarter with three points from Mason and a jumper from Evanich. After two free throws from Wilmington Mount Union connected on two three pointers, taking a 47-31 lead. Over the final four minutes Evanich had seven points while Mount Union outscored Wilmington 9-3, taking a 58-39 lead into the final quarter.
Mount Union used a run of 5-0 to start the quarter and a 15-0 run to end the game in the fourth quarter as Mount Union took the 79-44 victory.
Mount Union will remain on the road heading to Bexley, Ohio on Wednesday taking on Capital at 7 pm.
